Did you know if you are a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency you can register with Amazon.com to raise funds for your organization? Amazon Smile is a great way to augment your fundraising by promoting your organization's participation to your supporters. Amazon donates a percentage of your purchases to your agency of choice, and you can shop the same great Amazon.com prices!
I learned about Amazon Smile through one our our clients, Embrace Your Sisters, a not-for-profit agency providing assistance and support to breast cancer victims in the Rochester, NY area. Additionally, they provide public education on breast cancer. Now, my life has not been impacted personally by breast cancer as of yet, but one of my closest friends is a survivor and I can only imagine the impact this illness has in all areas of her life and the lives of her family members.
Last month I was doing some work on the Embrace Your Sisters website, and had an opportunity to learn about the Amazon Smile program. I found on Embrace Your Sisters website, this is one of three ways you can donate to their organization. To better understand their website and their organization I went and checked it out. It's so simple! Here's how it works.
Instead of going to amazon.com when you shop, change your bookmark to smile.amazon.com. Log in to your Amazon account from smile.amazon.com and then choose your charity. I suppose you could choose a new one every time you shop, but I set Embrace Your Sisters as my default charity. They do have a few featured charities like Doctors Without Borders and St Jude Children's Research Hospital, but you can search from a list of almost one million 501(c)(3) charities that are registered and select one that is near and dear to your heart.
That's all you have to do! Then when you come back and shop through smile.amazon.com, 0.5% of your total purchase will be donated by Amazon to your designated charity.
I would challenge you - why would you NOT select a charity and shop this way? As an amazon shopper you are still shopping at the same prices, with the same selection, and can connect your Amazon Prime account and still enjoy free shipping. It does not impact your purchase price, but it does impact a worthwhile organization who depends on donations to continue their mission.
Go check it out and pick your charity! If you are a 501(c)(3) think about getting yourself set up, and then be sure to promote this to your community and supporters so they can get on board!
