Effective May, 31, 2016 (This date is no longer being enforced,) UPS will enforce new Internet shipping communication requirements and your storefront may be out of luck.
UPS Internet Shipping and ups.com are requiring all storefronts to update to the new security protocol standard TLS 1.2 by June 30, 2018 (Updated date.) This deadline is a full month before the PCI Compliance Council is requiring storefronts to update to the new security protocol TLS 1.2. The deadline for new technology, according to PCI PA DSS 3.1 Standard, was published in April of 2015 and is required to be implemented by June 30, 2018 (Updated date.)
If your site is not using TLS 1.2 now, you will need to talk with your hosting provider to enable this protocol. If your site is running on an older operating system, you may be in trouble since many older operating systems may not support TLS 1.2. This change may start a house of cards falling for storefront owners. If your server can’t support the new protocol, then your hosting will need to be changed. If your eCommerce storefront doesn't support the new protocol, you will need to upgrade your platform or switch to a a storefront that supports TLS 1.2. If your storefront platform doesn’t’ meeting the PCI PA DSS 3.1 standards, then you may need to rebuild your eCommerce website on a compliant platform.
